Vivoactive 4 Bluetooth paired with Apple EarPods continuously disconnect while running. Is there a fix?

Garmin just sent me a new watch and it did it again on the 2nd run!  I'm reset, power on/off, disconnect/reconnecting bluetooth, etc.  Nothing works.

  • Same issue here. Since a couple of months ago my vivoactive 4 continuously disconnect from my Apple AirPods while running. I tried removing the earphones from the watch, reseting the bluetooth connection, disconnecting my phone bluetooth in case it could be causing interferences of any kind. No way, the issue is persistent.

Hello! Have you updated the watch to software version 5.60? If not, please make sure to with Garmin Express on a computer. Are you able to initially pair the Airpods with the watch and then they only disconnect once you start running? Is it at a certain time every time?

I just updated to 5.60 - I'm hoping that fixes the problem or I'm switching to an iWatch.  Ridiculous.  I've been sent a replacement Garmin already - no help.  It disconnects at different times; it'll disconnect as soon as I start a run, after 1 mile, 3 miles, 5 miles, etc. I either have to stop my run and disconnect/reconnect my AirPods and restart my music or just run without music  Extremely annoying.

HI there! Can you be sure your air pods are not connecting to your phone. This will interfere.

I don't run with my phone.  I am well out of range (100+ yards) by the time I turn on my AirPods and run.

  • I would say I had already updated to v5.60 before my last run and the AirPods got disconnected, but I'll double check again next time.

I had run with the AirPods connected to the Vivoactive 4 and the phone in a pocket (bluetooth active but not connected to the headphones) at the same time, and I had no problem with that. It started to fail a couple of months ago.
