KCAL readings

Hello.

Got my watch yesterday and love it.

On the watch face I am using it has 950 KCAL that seems to be going up. Can someone tell me what that is ?

Also along the same line - there is a flame icon with a number and and exclamation mark. What is that ?

many thanks in advance

  • A kcal is probably a kilocalorie, or a Calorie (capital C,) which is a standard unit of energy humans burn, though a lot of places use joules, etc.

It's going up because you burn Calories just being alive every minute [your BMR], and it's showing your RMR since that's what Garmin uses instead of BMR. It's calculated by your age, weight, and height, I think, times 1.2 for 'sedentary lifestyle'. You can calculate your RMR on websites like this: www.omnicalculator.com/.../rmr

Edit: Oh, and the exclamation point is because you haven't tested your VO2 max, you can find out how here: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=lWqSVlq3w76z5WoihLy5f8

I just went for a walk after selecting that test in my profile, and my exclamation point went away.

    Hope this helps!
