What is taking so long with the next update?

Hello , what is taking so long with the next update, please? When you posted ''a new update is coming soon'', i was expecting a few days, not weeks. My watch is still stuck at 5.10 with miserable GPS fixing and several other bugs that have been mentioned many times here in the forums. What is the status with the next update? I am planning to buy another watch if the problems aren't fixed soon, so I would like to know before Christmas if the waiting is worth it or not. Garmin's approach is really very dissapointing...

  • After one year, vivoactive 4 series still like a beta along with poor touch UI/UX experience. Even new Venu Sq still have lots of scrolling UI/UX. I don't know why Garmin intentionally choice stay in past. The most confuse UI design to me is that why we got a huge lock icon and still can touch to light up the watch and look at the huge lock icon??? And also you have to look at a huge unlock icon when you unlock it. Garmin just so afear that you don't know what you are doing!!!

You can see that Garmin use one software and control how many features you can get to creat different series. Why power manager feature only exit in certain series while it obvious can operate on any series. Software can easily go wrong with these mothod.

  • They're probably on vacation already. As Christmas is just around the corner, don't expect new updates this year.

Usually corporate work shuts down in this time frame (Christmas-New Year), beginning of January being first days of work, so most optimistic expectations would be end of January.

    Just my 2 cents.

  • Time flies and the moderators take absolutely no effort in informing us about the next update, which should (as we all hope) fix many bugs of this cursed watch. Does anybody have any information about what is going on? I am considering giving this up and changing to another watch, probably not from Garmin anymore.

Try Polar ignite or Samsung active 2, both will give you a peaceful user experience.... I've had both and I returned the one I did not like. Check Amazon, they have generous return policies and you can try each watch for 30 days, as long as you don't connect them to an online account, you can return them. ...and you can easy choose the one that suits you..

Again, both those watches have fully baked functional software, no waiting for fixes or bugs.

    Just my 2cents...

  • You are right, thank you for this. The thing is VA4 would still be the best watch for me, if only the software wasn't such an undone crap. I bought Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 recently, but returned it after a few days. The battery really doesn't last long and Samsung Pay isn't supported here in the Czech Republic, I really got used to paying with my watch. Polar Ignite unfortunately doesn't have payments nor music player, especially the music player is important to me. I am afraid I will still have to wait for Garmin developers to finally make this watch usefull after more than a year...

I had the Active 2 for about a year before a problem with the activity tracking was unresolvable and I got a refund from Samsung. The battery life was about a day for me which would actually be OK if it charged quickly - but it does not. It takes 2 hours+ each day to charge, that was the main issue for me. The other thing is that it can't count floors - it has an assumption that a floor is a certain amount of elevation change and that amount is too much for most people's homes. I will say that the amoled screen was beautiful but of course that contributes to the battery life. I looked at the Venu before getting the vivo but ruled it out because it looked like the fonts would be smaller than the vivo and I want to see the watch without my readers.

I just saw they released a new (stripped down) version of vivoactive 3 a few days ago and when I look at the Venu SQ I get the feeling that Garmin is not really innovating in this space.

  • Well, let's hope that they'll turn our VA4 into an Apple Watch-killer by the new update when it's taking so long. I have no doubts they're working hard on awesome new functions for us (HA HA HA...)

  • Well, I only hope they can finally create a "released" version. The Garmin's UI/UX is far behind the time and nothing near Apple Watch or other smart watches. Look at the newest Venu Sq. The only change is circle to square(Sq).

And I really hope Garmin Connect can save user data on both local device(phone/computer) and cloud instead of cloud only. At least keep the recent data on device. And can read data offline(like HR, active, those don't have to analyze) instead of every single one have to go through cloud. See what happened last year!

In all honesty, if we get sleep... Garmin managed to provide us with the bare minimum, we still have no answer regarding SAR values and RF activity...
