Paused 5.30...when will update be released

Please provide a date when the update will be released

The post pausing.5.30 said update coming soon

I would expect that to mean days not weeks.

  • I think the answer for that question "when it is finished". I doubt that Garmin has a planned date. I work with troubleshooting and software, and I am always asked how long time I will use to fix the problem. Engineers will usually never have a clear answer to that, as they are searching for what the problem is. Then they need to find a way to fix it, then test that the fix is working as intended, and don't cause other problems. Then it is finished. Let them do their thing, and we will have the update when it is done. If the update is rushed out at a planned date, the quality of the fix will not be good enough.

  • Yes...that's the process & would be good if Garmin followed it.

Garmin are pausing a rollout for, I assume, reported issues.

Issues that were introduced in the latest update.

So Garmin should be able to find the cause of the issues quite quickly - hence the update coming soon.

In my experience Garmin do not do thorough testing of software updates. It appears to me the software is tested on a device emulator running on a PC - convenient for the programmers they employ.

Testing on the device is undertaken by the customer after the update is released. That's why a rollout gets paused.

Garmin need software engineers to do testing on the devices, but that is time consuming & hence expensive. That's why they get the customers to do it.

Garmin also elect to keep their customers in the dark wrt release of software updates.

I don't expect to see an update anytime soon.

Hello, I apologize for the delay in the update. I do not have a date of when this will be released but I can assure you we are working to get the update out and rolling again. Once we have, I will update the forum. I apologize for the frustration and any inconvenience its caused and appreciate your patience while we work through this.

  • This is the correct thing to do. Congratulations Garmin!!

Finally you are doing the correct job, and not making customers beta testers, when they don't want to do!! If this way of working was done in the past, many headackes could be avoid, like that time you killed bluetooth connection from VA3M and messed all activities names!!

Take all the time you need to make the software works well, and also bring some functionalities from Fenix 6 that I know Venu/VA4 can do, such as the new sleeping index.

    Regards
