New ondevice Sleep tracking planned for vivoactive?

Hey,

I bought a vivoactive 4. I am disappointed from the sleep tracking capabilities.

I just read about the new firstbeat powered on device sleep tracking capabilities for the Fenix 6 (currently in beta). Does anyone know if these features are also planned for the vivoactive or venu series?

  • I would also like to know this. I am on the verge of getting going back to Fitbit and getting the new Sense because I am not an athlete - I have my watch as a health and wellness tracker as I have health issues and sleep is a major part of what I want to track. I had a fitbit for 7 years and was extremely happy with it, not so happy with other things so I tried Garmin having high hopes. Unfortunately I just found more frustration. The sleep tracking as it is currently is HORRENDOUS and to anyone who is interested in sleep tracking, I would advise to steer clear of Garmin.

So, I would really like to know if this new sleep tracking capability will be added, or if I should just go back to Fitbit. Hate to keep jumping around but I want a device I can rely on and trust that the data is correct, at least somewhat.

  • Sounds like you were really happy with fitbit so you should stick with it. Why change? And I doubt the on device sleep is coming to VA4.

    Maybe Can answer?

  • Hello! If you are experiencing any issues with the sleep tracking, I am happy to troubleshoot for you. Or if you have any feedback regarding the sleep track, I can send this to my team. As for Firstbeat sleep, this is not a feature for the vivo devices.

Really!!!? A "health&wellness" device without on device sleep tracking costing almost 300€ in 2020!?!?!

The way simple algorithms are being withheld from a ridicously expensive device is shocking.. Look at apple, samsung, and how they treat their devices, I would be stunned to see your company exist in any meaninfull manner within a decade.. Good night and goodbye to a company that is staggering into 2020 with a nineties mindset on product development....

It is all in software development, people spend huge amounts of money and expect these devices to continue to evolve over a 3-5 year period, as new devices hit the market, these early devices are still used by a huge customer base, they expect the Garmin company to respect the people who have invested in this current cycle of products, with comparable software experiences... 300€ is a huge amount of money that should give a customer acess to the next couple of years of software development from the company they've choosen to invest in ...

Otherwise, spending 300€ for a beta device that never functioned as intended, and is currently being sent "updates" that destroy our devices and requires us to hard reset every 30 days.... This is the worst electrical device I have ever used.... And this company is the most arcane and *** collection of people I ever gave my money to...

Ask why there is no "AirplaneMode".... Because the f%&$ radios are always on.... This leads to Cancer..

  • I WAS very happy with Fitbits sleep tracking. Why change then? Because my tracker was about 8 years old and I wanted a new one, and the Garmin Vivoactive 4 advertised having features I believed would be a significant improvement over my old Fitbit, i.e.

onboard GPS (definitely better than the no-GPS tracker I was using before)

PulseOx (turned out to be a complete bust, in my opinion, as it drains battery and doesn't seem accurate)

Respiration (turned out to be nothing I use or look at)

Stress (was hoping for HRV but misunderstood, so also not something I use particularly much)

Body Battery (sounded good but in the real world is just a made up number that doesn't really match my reality)

Heart Rate (seems mostly accurate and possibly more accurate than my old Fitbit, which I am thankful for)

Step tracking (probably about the same as the fitbit)

Sleep tracking (terrible and not at all accurate)

When I have to edit my sleep times every morning to tell it when I was ACTUALLY sleeping, I feel that is a fail on the part of this tracker. It is too bad the new sleep tracking feature won't be coming to VA4, that combined with the fact that I am very interested in on-device HRV and ECG, I will likely be shopping for a different device much earlier (by years) than planned when I purchased this one. It's a shame.

  • Hello, I'm from FitBit. I am 59 years old and for health reasons I need a careful check of my heart rate. Honestly, in the past few years, I've gotten the impression that Fitbit is using its customers as a beta tester. After a month I am not disappointed with Garmin. At this link I better describe my experience with Garmin:
