Pairing Stryd + HRM + Bluetooth headphones with VA4?

Hi, I currently use a HRM-Run with my VA4S and bluetooth headphones occasionally to listen to music, pairing these two devices at the same time seems to work fine.

I'm looking at purchasing a Stryd foot pod however I'd like to first find out if I can connect all three devices to my VA4S at the same time?

From what I can tell Stryd is best connected via ANT+ as a sensor to use the live data for my watch. My HRM-Run uses ANT+ also, so I guess the real question is: can two ANT+ sensors be connected at the same time to VA4S?

  • Does the HRM-Run work with VA4S, other than showing the heart rate? I thought it was only compatible with the more expensive watches?

  • You're right, I don't get running power or advanced metrics with VA4S. I used to have a forerunner 935 when I originally purchased the HRM-Run, which it was fully compatible with.

I don't care for those metrics though and I prefer the smaller form factor and music option with the VA4S. I still use the HRM though because I find it far superior to optical HR and I do like to use HR data for my runs.

I'm considering the Stryd though because of it's speed and distance accuracy over GPS and it'd save my VA4S battery a lot of drain to be able to disable GPS.

  • It can receive multiple ANT+ sensors at the same time. E.g. cadence, heart rate and power at the same time works (power needs a third-party datafield because Garmin gimped it on this watch).

However, the problem is that you cannot get pace or distance from the Stryd unless you fully disable the GPS on the watch. It will also autocalibrate to the less acurrate GPS distance. Better Garmin watches like the Forerunner handle this fine but the Vivoactive 4 is incredibly gimped.

  • Hi, thanks for your reply and confirming that I can connect multiple ANT sensors.

Do you mean that stryd will autocalibrate itself to the GPS data if you DONT disable GPS?

The only drawback I'm aware of by disabling GPS and using stryd for pace/distance is that you don't get the post-run map/route appear, but that really doesn't bother me.

  • Correct, so you have to reset the calibration every run.

If you don't use the GPS (keep it disabled) it probably works reasonably well. (But I use Strava, so it's not an option)
