Handicap Entry in Golf App

I played my first round of golf using the watch today and couldn't work out how to enter a handicap which is really frustrating

It seems from the manual that the VA3 used to let you enter a handicap but the 4 does not and does some daft voodoo of its own that won't impress either my playing partners or my club. Why on earth would Garmin REMOVE this functionality???

Handicap scoring is a pretty basic requirement and I am hugely disappointed with my purchase if there is no way to enable it. I am hoping (but I have read the manual) that there is a way that someone can explain to me.

Also is there any way to change the sensitivity of the shot sensor. It missed a load of my shots today. I really wish I could drive 350 yards but a 200 yard drive followed by a 150 yard shot is what actually happened and there seems t be no way to edit this either in round or afterwards on my phone, so the club stats are going to be pretty useless.

I'm already tarting to wonder if I was better off with my Fitbit and Golfshot app on my phone :-(

  • Can't comment on shot sensor but you are right, the stableford scoring is rubbish without being able to add a handicap so I only use mine for stroke play scoring. They even removed it from the Vivoactive 3 in a later firmware release. Guessing those decisions were made by someone who doesn't play golf!

Yeah - my hunting round the internet confirmed that about the handicaps and the shot sensors so I took it back to Argos as not fit for purpose. They were very happy to refund me. Lesson learned.

    Lost sale for Garmin.

  • Former Member - I am sorry the watch did not work out for you. You are correct that the Vivoactive 4 it is not as feature loaded on the golf side. Either our golf specific products or watches such as the Fenix series or Forerunner series have more golf functionality build into it.

Thanks for your help and advice Chris.

It seems from reading around that the autoshot sensor issue is just the same on the Approach S60 which, given the big selling point they make of it, is rather surprising. I am also amazed that user testing did not throw up the need for manual adjustment and re-editing of club selection which is far too easy to get wrong as you scroll using the touchscreen and can't be changed afterwards.

As regards the handicap entry it seems the S60 does allow this and the VA 3 used to allow it. What on earth would possess a development team to remove / not provide such a basic and universal element of the game of golf?

Back to my phone and my trusty Golfshot app.
