vivoactive 4 disconnecting repeately

Beginning yesterday morning (after a software update to Version 5.10.0.0), my watch will not reliably stay connected to my phone. They're withing 2 feet of one another & every 10m or so I get s series of notifications that the phone is disconnected, then reconnected, etc. Number of times varies from 1-3 disconnect/reconnect events, usually in quick succession. Does not correlate to syncs & judging by battery drain this morning this is draining the battery fast.

Sometimes I only receive a 'connected' notification, indicating that I either wasn't notified of the disconnect, or the reconnect happened quickly enough that it went unnoticed.

Yesterday morning was the first time I'd noticed a problem, when the phone failed to sync after a ride & a walk. I was initially not able to get the watch to sync at all; had to remove it from the Garmin app & re-add it. Later I discovered that it had become disconnected at some point during the day & was not syncing my ride home. At the time I hoped that was due to low battery (<20%); this morning it's fully-charged.

There's been no update to phone software in this time. Garmin app is at version 4.34 & according to my phone has not been updated within the past 3 days.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue since the update to 5.10?

Is there anyone who's experienced a similar issue & can suggest a remedy?

  • Yes, I experience the same. Garmin is pants off with software.

My venu started doing this after the 5.10 update as well. It will connect to the phone (Samsung galaxy s10)  and then after some time it will disconnect. Afterwards it will refuse to connect to the phone again until I unpair and repair the watch again.

  • I’m now have the same issue. Watch is constantly connecting then disconnecting to/from phone. This problem started about 12 hours ago, a couple of days after SW update so if it’s update related there was some time lag before issue arose. Has big impact on battery so want solution ASAP.   FWIW I normally connect via Garmin Connect on an IPad.

  • I'm not sure if this will make any difference in your troubleshooting...

I just noticed after enabling the connect/disconect alert feature, that the watch creates a separate bluetooth connection for Garmin Connect, as well as for Garmin IQ app. Every time I quit the IQ app via the app switcher, the phone notifies  me of a disconnect. Likewise, it notifies me of a connection on launch of the IQ app.

Perhaps quit the IQ app if you have it open. Maybe that helps. If not, also try removing the watch from Connect App, then from the bluetooth settings on your phone, and repairing your watch with your phone or iPad

I'm running iOS 14, but this behaviour was also present on iOS 13.7

  • For my part, I can say this would do nothing. My disconnect/connect events are completely unconnected with running the app..

  • As 9429610 says, I don’t have Connect or IQ Apps open (or notifications on) but the connect/disconnect events still occur.

  • Yes, my exact problem, I disconnect if I leave the room.
