Perhaps there is a small chance the battery percentage calibration is completely wrong??? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • As mentioned on here, before I went to bed last night, I switched to a stock watch face instead of my normal IQ Actiface. When I woke up, I had only drained 2% somehow instead of the typical 20%+

I'd suggest others try the same thing. I will be trying a few different IQ faces while sleeping to try and determine if it's all IQ faces or certain ones? (I only ever have 1 IQ face installed, no other faces)

  • Regarding the increased battery drain:

I usually use a stock Watchface or a Watchface called M2. Normal battery drain in smartwatch Mode is ~0,3-0,6% per hour. After the last update, like many others, I realized this numbers have doubled for me. Both with the stock and app watchfaces!

I have to report that after I've done a full delete and reset of my watch this problem still hasn't been resolved. Set up the watch yesterday night and within 8 hours it drained 15% battery again.

Tbh this is really a big problem. I just bought the watch a few months because especially because it has great battery live. Now this advantage is almost completely gone...

I hope this get's resolved soon!

  • I've had my VA4 just 2 weeks

It was on firmware 4.something, but within hours of setting it up updated to 5 1. The battery drain has always been low during the day and high overnight.

Reading this thread I tried downgrading to 5.0 only for 5.1 to get installed soon afterwards. So didn't have opportunity to check battery drain overnight on 5.0.

I use a built in  analogue watchface with always on second hand. Don't have any CIQ watchface or widgets installed. I was getting between 5 & 6 days battery life with no activities, but knew it could be better if the overnight battery drain could be reduced.

I decided to try the following. I actived SPo2 tracking overnight - the battery drain was similar to what I had been seeing with no SPO2 tracking. I then switched off SPO2 tracking and last night the overnight battery drain was significantly reduced, around 2% over 8 hours. Previously it had been around 8% over 8 hours.

During the day the battery drain is between 2 and 2.5  hrs per 1%.

It looks like the daily battery drain is going to near to 10%....giving a battery life of between 8 to 9 days (with no activities)

The battery drain for a GPS enabled activity, such as running, walking or cycling (the 3 activities I do) is approximately 5% per hour.

Whilst this has worked for my VA4, unfortunately it may not work for other VA4s. However, it is simple to try and may work!

    Good luck

  • Huge battery consumption after the upgrade! On the vivoactive 4 now the battery lasts 2 days and before I was using it for 5 days without problems! I already tried to remove the GarminDevice.xml file and to bring to factory default thw watch with no benefits! This update is not working! Especially during the night, where is uses A LOT of battery.

  • The same with my VA4!

Since 5.10 is the maximum 2 days, before at least 4 to 5 days.

    Garmin, repair the firmware!

  • Yes, I am also concluding that the issue is with IQ faces. After downgrading I went back to 5.1 and went 2 days with a standard face and consumption was "normal" - meaning about the same as my 1 IQ face had when I was on 5.0. Then I switched to that IQ face and consumption in a 24 hour period is about 10% more. I feel like the varying degrees of "badness" people are experiencing is related to the particular IQ face they use and how much it is affected by the changes in 5.1.

  • To further update some of my testing, I've tried 2 different 3rd party IQ watch faces while sleeping, both had 20-30% battery drain while asleep.

Last night I tried a Garmin IQ face (Classic Sport) and I only had a couple % battery drain.

I will continue to test, but it is looking like 3rd party IQ watch faces might be the issue. Something Garmin changed in 5.1 is causing a bug with them. I will try a different 3rd party IQ tonight as well

  • there is no update as shown in Garmin Express.

  • Where did you purchase your watch. Some Asian Garmin products don't receive the same updates...
