Minimum options for battery consumption ?

A day ago I bought a Vivoactive 4, 2 years ago I had a Vivoactive 3, and I had never had battery drain problems although I saw that it was something very common in the forum.
Currently my Vivoactive 4 is discharging at a rate of 1% every 10 or 20m, my concise question is what are the settings for lower consumption? I just did a hard reset and selected:

  • Brightness 20%.
  • Gestures in activity only. (previously always on).
  • I did not synchronize the WIFI (previously I did so I discard consumption factors).
  • Cell phone notifications for messages and calls only (previously all).
  • Pulse oximeter off (previously only while sleeping).
  • Data recording per second (only affects activity).
  • Clock face with hours and minutes, battery indicator and no seconds (that is, nothing that consumes).
  • Paired with a bluetooth headset but disabled, only enabled in sport.
  • Widgets: heart rate, weather, water, stress, music, notifications and activity history.
  • I uploaded 2GB of music but I don't think it will affect.

All these parameters are configured today, and I hope to be lucky and have a normal battery consumption, but any other that can contribute?
Thank you !

  • These settings all sound perfectly reasonable. On a full discharge, I get on average 0.8 to 0.9% per hour discharge from an average cycle that's 100% to 10-15% battery.

Just when I got the watch, I set it up, and then was bombarded with a backlog of updates... after which battery consumption was high-ish.

I did a full factory reset and started again. At that point I didn't backup my settings, but this can be done if you copy the right files off the device prior to reset, and then copying them back into the NewFIles folder on the device afterwards.

Anyways, my point is the reset helped dramatically. I typically do an activity every day. In the course of a charge cycle, that's about 3.5h of GPS activities and 2.5-4h of other activities without GPS but often with a chest HRM. At this rate, average of 0.8-0.9% per hour over the course of a 100-10% discharge cycle

What I've heard and seen often here, is that the VA4 is constantly looking for BT headphones if you've set your device up for one. This can be a big battery drain culprit. The only fix that I know of is to disable it in settings, and only enable it when you need it. This is obviously a bug Garmin needs to attend. Users can't hunt through menus like this to enable headphones.

I hope this could be of any help.

you know which folder it is and the files to be copied ?

  • I have not done it yet on the watch but have done it a couple times on my EDGE 530...

Here's Garmin's instructions LINK. Please note also the link at the bottom of the page that shows how to restore these settings.
