This is a really annonying feature because it autosaves your workout (mostly hikes when having a lunch break) in the middle of an activity.

What I do is stop the activity without saving and then actually turn off my watch. When I turn on the watch, I start the activity again and it picks up from where I left off. However, that's with a FR. Obviously, you won't count steps or other stats when the watch is off.
