You can download apps from Connect IQ but, based on my experience of all 4 Vivoactive watches, if you want any sort of accuracy you need another watch. I picked up a cheap second hand Fenix 3 solely for my open water swimming as my Vivoactive does everything else I want. As with all the Vivoactive watches I am sure it is code only that prevents it supporting ows but they have to have product differentiation somewhere and sadly the Vivoactive doesn't make the cut :(
