Bluetooth Disconnects

I am running into some issues with the Bluetooth connection for headphones. I have the Garmin Vivoactive 4. Software version 4.70, Bluetooth version 5.04. The watch will go for several days without any problems then suddenly it won't connect to my headset. I have tried restarting the watch and the headset several times to no avail. I have to remove the headset from the watch and add it back. Once that is done and the headset is connected I go to start an activity which then disconnects the headset again. I have to go through several restarts of the watch before I can keep the headset connected and start an activity.

I have tried this with Soundcore Spirit X, Sony MDR-ZX770BN, and JBL Live 500BT. I know that these are not on the list of approved headsets but these are the ones I have had, or friends have. I would understand if some functions of the headset didn't work but I can listen to music for half an hour or more with no problems and full control through the headset (play, pause, previous or next track). The issue is when I start an activity and the watch disconnects. If anyone else has run into this have you found a solution or is it just a wait and hope for Garmin to update the watch software?
