heart rate data from discarded activity

I am trying to understand what heart rate data is saved on GC.  If I set the watch to an activity but then discard it at the end, obviously the activity is not saved.  But what about the heart rate data for the day?  Is that the same as if I never did the activity?  Or is there more heart rate data recorded?  I am trying to understand how much data is used by intensity minutes and Personal Activity Index.  My main exercise is bike riding, where I record the activity on my Edge 830.  However, Garmin does not count such data toward intensity minutes nor does it pass the data to PAI.  Only the data from the watch is used for those.  At this point I set the watch while riding to a cardio activity while riding, but I am not sure if I need to save it or not.  I do not really wish to save it, except for getting the best data to intensity minutes and PAI.

  • This was the case with my Forerunner 35, and now I have the VA4.... I do the same as you when riding with my EDGE 530, so that my watch pulls accurate HR data from my chest HRM.

You don't need to save the activity on your watch. The HR data is stored
