Heart rate alerts while running

Just got a vivoactive 4s.

I went for a run and added an alert at a heart rate of 173 bpm. When I came home I've had a max heart rate of 175 bpm. I never noticed the alert while I was running. Should it vibrate or does it just show a message on screen?
