Daughter got a Rey watch, and is in love with it, but...

I've had a ton of Garmin watches over the last decade, and can't remember the last one that wouldn't let you rename activities. She wants a "Hike" activity, and "Tennis" activity; neither exist, and I can't find a way to copy over an existing activity and rename it to one of those two. She's irritated enough with this (seriously, this should be a fundamentally easy thing to do on this watch) that she wants to return the watch if she can't do it. So, someone please help before she ditches it... thanks!

The vivoactive like devices only allow selecting from a set of names. They don't support "hand keying" text for anything as you can on forerunners and Fenix devices.

I wish - depending on what activity you copy from, you get a limited amount of things you can rename it to; for example, on the sports one, you can rename it to football, basketball, etc. but no Tennis. I really can not find a way to put in a custom name as I've been able to on any number of Garmin watches I've had myself. On a watch that retailed for $400, this should be easier.

Oh OK. So there is no way to just edit the name to whatever you want?

Not that I can find, no. :( We just bought the watch last week, and it's getting returned to Garmin if we can't figure this out. I kind of talked my daughter into a Garmin from an Apple Watch, but this will make her completely lose interest in keeping this watch. She was sold - the watch really is cool. She loved that BB8, etc. came on when she hit step goals, etc., but if it won't properly log her activities with the correct name, she's done with it.

When you get to the point where you select activity name, is one of the options "custom?" On my forerunner if you choose custom, the next screen is where you would hand key in the name.

I'm wondering what is the expectation for a tennis activity? Just tracking heart rate? Or expecting movement tracking via accelerometer? I have no experience with the Apple watch, so wondering if it is better in this regard.

Really, just a generic workout exactly like you're describing. On other Garmin watches, I'd just copy the "Other" activity, rename it to "Tennis", turn off GPS, and let it ride. Really, it's shocking that "Hike" isn't included. Who doesn't use the "Hike" activity on their watch?

Maybe one of the hike apps in the Connect IQ store. jim_m_58 might know something about that.
