How to start workout of a 'custom' activity?

I created a workout in garmin connect. I classified it as a 'custom' activity (instead of running/cycling/etc). I synched it, so it should be on my watch. But how do I start it? I know, usually you start it with the activity, but there is no 'custom' activity on my watch and I can't add it? (In the app the icon is a person in starfish mode).

  • I'm not sure if the VA4 supports "Custom" workouts, but try selecting an activity profile first (any profile should do, doesn't have to be "Custom"), and then try selecting your workout.

    Hello!

    Thanks, this worked!

As a workaround that is ok, but not entirely happy with having it in an unrelated activity.

It's a bit odd to have the option to create a ''custom" workout and then not have "custom" as an activity available.

  • As a workaround that is ok

This is not a workaround. This is how it's intended to be used.

not entirely happy with having it in an unrelated activity.

    Why?

The whole point of having a "Custom" workout is to have a workout type which is not associated in any way with any profile, and can be used universally in any profile available.

I had to choose to set it up as a yoga activity, even though that is not what it is.

    So that is a workaround.

If i can set up workouts as 'custom' but then don't have an activity that supports and let me start then workout from there, that is a flaw in the design.

Why provide 'custom' as a workout if you don't have that activity on the watch?

  • If i can set up workouts as 'custom' but then don't have an activity that supports and let me start then workout from there, that is a flaw in the design.

But the whole point is that ANY activity supports a custom workout. Please note that not every activity profile has its own workout type. A custom workout is to be used with activities that don't have their own workout type.

  • Can I join in this discussion. Any activity doesn't support custom workouts. Only a few activities have the option of swiping up and choosing a workout. I would like to add custom interval training to my SUP activities so I get all the stroke, distance and cadence metrics but can also get the interval timing and heartrate prompts. What is the point of custom workouts if you can't add them to any activity, or even see them on your watch as "Custom" is not on the activity list?
