Getting concerned with the accuracy

Posting again:

I recently bought a vivoactive 4s to replace my Fitbit that I've had for years. The other day it calculated that I had burnt 3374 calories, 1536 of them being active. All I had done that day is run for 20 minutes (burning 177 calories) and work at my desk. I had a few drinks that night staying up late but mostly sitting down. It had also calculated I had done 20 minutes vigorous excerise (additional to the 20 I did for my run). How and why has it calculated this? I was sitting down!! My Fitbit never gave me these results.

Its only been 3 days and my battery has dropped to 1% (charged it fully when I first got it). And it tracks my sleep when I'm sitting in bed reading a book. It also takes ages for the GPS to work. I have to stand outside for a while before I can start running.

Additionally, I went for a run this morning and it says that I spend 10 minutes of it consistently at my peak heart rate (zone 5)... surely this can't be right? You should only be at your peak heart rate when doing high intensity intervals, not when going on a jog?

Starting to get concerned as I spent a lot of money on this compared to the Fitbit. What can I do to fix this? Does it need calibrating?

  • A few comments.

I don't think 3 days is unusual for battery if you do GPS activities. I do 1.5 to 2 hours of GPS activities per day these days and recharge every 2 days with around 20% of battery left.

I think active is measured as anything above a certain heart rate. I think it's resting rate plus a factor that triggers that you're active.

Sleep doesn't work well for me either but I compensate by manually adjusting the start and end times every morning. Then results become more accurate when web Connect recalculates during the day.

My GPS kicks in in less than 10 seconds so if yours is taking awhile, your CPE settings must be out of date. I think the best way to fix that is a sync with Express and a PC.

Regarding heart rate, I found it takes a bit of tweaking to figure out exactly how to wear your watch for the best accuracy. One thing I do is tighten the strap one loop more than normal during an activity as light can skew measurements.

  • Thanks for your reply and your advice, much appreciated. I only did one 20 minute activity with GPS within the three days which is why I was concerned. Unless it stayed on by accident? I'll try syncing with Express to see if it makes my GPS quicker. And regarding heart rate, I normally to tighten the straps when exercising anyway but I'll see about placing it somewhere different on the wrist. This will hopefully sort the intensity minutes out too.

  • contra mas se usa el GPS mas rapido se vuelve , aunque a mi tambien me ha tardado mucho en algunas ocasiones , por suerte ahora lo uso mas y noto que sea mas rapido
