Third party HR chest straps

Have any AV4 owners used their watch with a third party chest strap. Eg. Pulsar strap. Does AV4 require propriety Garmin strap.

Thanks

  • no, i only use it on my VA4 and it works normally.. once it started to fail, and then i changed the battery and it resolved.

    good to know, thanks!

  • I have CooSpo H6 ANT+.

It works without problem with VA4. Buyed on AliExpress

  • I have tried Scosche arm band, Polar 10 and Garmin Dual with my Vivoactive.  All of them can be found by the watch, but they do not stay connected.  Garmin suggested returning the watch under warranty but my husband has same watch and Garmin Dual strap and his pairing does not stay connected either.  All data from the watch is the wrist heart rate which is way off.  All three of those HR devices work great with Garmin bike 530 and with Zwift but not with Vivoactive and Garmin Connect.

  • All of them can be found by the watch, but they do not stay connected.

Please be aware that external sensors work only when a timed activity has been started on the watch. It won't work for 24/7 monitoring.

  • I did two chats with Garmin Support and searched online without finding the answer you just gave. On the first chat they said I needed to buy a new HR strap.  On the second one they said to return and exchange the watch.  Vivoactive can’t get enough info for accurate data on virtual rides.  I linked Zwift to Garmin Connect for ride data but heart rate data is not integrated there.  No one told me I had to start an activity to get accurate HR into Garmin Connect.  I assumed that a linked, active HR monitor would record and it doesn’t.

  • I had to start an activity on my VA4 before it would give a reading from my Polar H9.

  • As stated in the Vivoactive 4 user manual (online PDF): "The first time you connect a wireless ANT+ or Bluetooth sensor to your Garmin device, you must pair the device and sensor. After they are paired, the device connects to the sensor automatically when you start an activity and the sensor is active and within range."

So that should not come as a surprise, if anyone bothers to read the manual. My Polar H10 works just fine.
