End of the day 12,000 steps clocked for the day and then all of a sudden a triangle appears on the scree and all data lost. Apps started downloading again...so it seems the watch rebooted on its own. Is this normal?

It's somewhat more common than it should be..
For some, it happens more than it should. It's only happened to me1 time in the last year where I lost my steps. I suspect the problem is CIQ as my watch…
Stay away from CIQ store, a bad idea from the beginning.... Garmin should provide a Quality product on their own, not half assed ideas crammed in to the Vivoactive 4s... All "new features" touted for this…
So how long have you had a garmin and how many CIQ apps have you used?
My guess is a short time and only a couple.

All "new features" touted for this watch are still just gimmicks! Look at the animations for yoga... even after 6 months of updates there is no actual way of using these features for practice!
