Quarantine Settings

Hi all,

Just a small question regarding the setting on my Vivoactive4, which I purchased rather recently.

I'm currently quarantined as a result of Covid-19 concerns (no, I don't have it)

I'm also doing one of the Garmin running training plans for a half marathon.

What setting -indoor or outdoor run? - would best record me running back and forth in my apartment or on my balcony? I've seen some people in  Italy and China doing the same.

Also, I have a stationary spinning bike. What sensors are best to buy to help the watch record stats accurately while I use this?

Any help at all would be great. ru

Unless the spin bike has sensors built in that broadcast on ANT+ or BTLE, you won't be able to get much.

Some cadence sensors have clips that allow attachment to shoes (Wahoo RPM Cadence does this and it works fine).

  • If you're indoors and use outdoor run, you'll just be draining your battery with the GPS which should never actually get a satellite fix. On the other hand, an indoor run may not yield accurate results because of stride length variations. Even which shoes you wear can have an impact on results.

If you can get a satellite fix on your balcony, then that should yield the most accurate results however the map it generates is going to look weird.

BTW, I'm also in self-isolation although I'm not sick. I go outside to exercise and just make sure I stay far away from other people.
