anyone experience battery drain with data fields?

I kept my VA4s at minimal setup (BT on, no Pulse Ox, no WiFi, Infocal watch face, Battery gadget) for a while and the battery is ~6 days.

However, whenever I added a custom datafield for running, the battery start to drain significantly faster. i tried Dozen run/single field/Grun, all have the same issue. I suspect that it is related to GPS settings, but want to see if anyone else experience the same.

You'll likely see a similar drain if you don't have a CIQ DF. As soon as you start an activity like "run", GPS gets turned on, and GPS has a significant impact on battery.

Nope. I did similar activity use default data field and the battery life is fine, it drained from 100% to 50% in three days with one 30 min GPS usage. Once I added CIQ DF, the battery drained 10% overnight and over 25% in 1 day with one 30 min GPS usage.

A CIQ datafield doesn’t use any resources from GPS which is enabled by your watch FW. it has no access to it anyway.

A CIQ Datafield will use more battery (1% extra etc) during usage depending on how many fields are being updated at the same 1second BUT it SHOULD not drain battery AFTER the activity is over.

If it does, then you need to report it to garmin or determine if others are seeing the same issue as you to prove your hypothesis (maybe more users will chime in to verify)

Hi,

I made exactly the same experience, all of the data fields listed by you trigger an high battery drain also AFTER ending an activity.

My only solution at the moment: Don't use these (valuable) data fields...

Did you find a solution meanwhile?

Hi. I have a massive battery draining problem on my VA4 as well without any relation to data field etc. For many days no problem, but suddenly the battery started to loose power as hell. I thing there is a general problem with the watch which has to be fixed by Garmin.

If you link the drain with using a specific data-field, besides reporting the drain to the developer, you could "restart" the watch after the activity recorded is finished and synchronized.

I can confirm this.

It took me hell of the time to discover that data fields are the problem with the battery drain. Sometimes even restart does not help. So I just don't use them and in the end I don't miss them too much
