Daily Intensity Minutes / Intensity Minutes Per Activity

I can see the weekly intensity minutes in the Connect App.
And if I go the the Help --> "Tracking Intensity Minutes" it gives me a breakdown of (Moderate + Vigorous) which gives me the accumulative weekly total.

1) Is there a way to see my DAILY intensity minutes broken down into Moderate vs Vigorous?

2) Is there a way to see the Moderate vs Vigorous intensity minutes for a specific activity?

I'd really like more insight on a specific day and/or activity in addition to the current weekly total.

You have to do some math.  Minutes are defined as "Moderate" or "Vigorous" based on heart rate zone.  There are five zones, and I believe Garmin's default is to make anything in Zone 4 "moderate" and Zone 5 "vigorous".  The heart rate range for each of those zones depends on your age.  For a specific activity, you can see minutes by zone,  for each of the 5 zones.  So, if you look at the zone 4 bar, that's your # of "moderate" minutes, and the bar for Zone 5 is the # of "Vigorous" minutes.  You can tailor the zones, by altering the HR range for each.  And you can designate the zones differently.  You could make Zone 2 "moderate" if you wanted, or make it "vigorous".

But the answer for #1 is "No" and it's really aggravating.  Compare Garmin's presentation of Intensity Minutes to Fitbit's of Zone Minutes.  You can see the source for the Fitbit minutes by the minute, and by the day.  With Garmin, you cannot see when the minutes were earned, and you can't even get an exact number for the day.  Instead you get a histogram that isn't labelled with any precision, so you can kind of see how many you earned.  And certainly you can't see how many were moderate vs vigorous.  I have to believe this is easily fixable and hope Garmin will do so.

  • That depends on which watch you own.

    How can I do this?

    1. The whole Intensity Minutes thing looks broken to me - I have a low resting rate and almost never show Intensity Minutes.
    2. I changed my zones and have heart rates in zone 4 and 5 without showing anything.
    3. With the large number of people complaining, Gamin needs to fix this or explain why it works, before folk like me start pressing the "misleading and deceptive" button

yeah, I wanted them to have a bettery representation of intensity minutes for a while and submitted my request long time ago https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/ideas/ , but probably there is not enough voting for it yet.

That depends on which watch you own.

Do you mean that on Fenix or Forerunner you can have a better breakdown of intensity minutes?

  • My vivoactive 4s gives a complete breakdown on the activity in the app on my phone.  You do need to set an activity if you want all the details. Scroll to the bottom of the activity in appropriate menu.  I also set my activities up within the watch face to break down the zones during an activity so I can see how many minutes within a given zone in real time, so I know if I need to push a little harder. Very motivating. Explore your settings.  Also gave breakdown in-app on Venu. I believe Fenix and Forerunner do the same. Sent the venu back as I did not like the format—everything was too small for me to read at a glance.  Had a lovely display, though.  The VA4s is not quite as pretty, but much easier to read and more practical for me to use.

  • I guess that you misunderstand what we want, of course details in activity would show breakdown for HR zones and such but what we're talking is the graph of Intensity mintues per week, it simply shows on which days you've got certain amount of minutes without easy access to data what activities contributed to that, it's not well done from UX standpoint.
Here is the graph I'm talking about. Some competing brands would provide you with more info on what you were doing and when which I think would be cool to see.
