Foot pod connecting in various Widget views

Viewing various widgets (Heath Stats, Body Battery, Heart rate) seems to cause the watch to search for and connect to any paired Foot Pod without fail. In this case a bluetooth speed cell. My only option is to remove the battery or turn off the sensor in options. I don't have a Garmin version to test as they seem to be going for double the price currently.

VA4S current firmware (4.0).

  • Because it's not logical in this case. Anyway I shall endeavour to fiddle with the settings and toggle the foot pod status after each activity.

  • The Tempe is the only sensor I've ever seen that transmits 24/7, so in other cases it won't access a sensor unless it's actually being used.

Contact the vendor of your FP, as doing BLE 24/7 will really impact it;'s battery life.

  • Because it's not logical in this case.

But perhaps easier from the engineering point of view.

What for? Just asking Slight smile

  • In a sense the vendor is Garmin as it was made by Dynasteam like their foot pods and others many moons ago. I'm not sure if this is entirely due to the device, but I have an idea of what it is doing now. I started using iSmoothRun on an old iPhone as Garmin Coach workouts disable all Alerts including Run/Walk even for Mr Run Walk Run (Jeff).

Through this app I can see that in close proximity it connects for 12sec disconnects for 24sec since it is static. Through walls the disconnect is extended.

Thanks for the info on the Milestone Jim I might just get one of those next as iSmoothRun supports more than just cadence from it.

The connection notifications on screen with vibration are annoying and definitely use watch battery so that is my why.

  • The connection notifications on screen with vibration are annoying

    Ok, that one I understand...

    and definitely use watch battery

... and that I would ignore. I bet power consumption is totally insignificant in that case.

  • This appears to have been fixed. I have no indication of a connection when the BLE footpod is available to connect to whilst it still connects to the HRM strap in the heart rate widget.
