Battery not draining!??

Ok, I am totally stumped. For weeks I have been complaining about the dismal battery life on my VA4S and had to charge it every 2.5-3 days.

I changed the watch face (I used the basic Garmin face with battery, date, heart rate, and steps before) so that it now only shows battery and date about a week ago. I charged it on Sunday morning, but not all the way, as I was late going out the door so I unplugged it at 65%.

Well, it is now Tuesday evening, 2.5 days later, and it still says 65%.

So either it is totally whacked or just not showing the proper battery AT ALL now for some sudden reason. Oddly enough, the battery widget is stumped, as well, as it says

"Since last charge" N/A

"Since last view" N/A

This can't be? I just don't get it. I restarted to be sure it wasn't just "stuck" but it hasn't changed. Removing the "updatable" metrics on the watch face couldn't be all that did it?  I still have BT, notifications, alarms, and night pulse ox. I am mystified, and am fully expecting it to just die without warning at any moment.

  • Same thing here. My wife came home early evening and the watch showed 100% (yes, HUNDRED), still tracking her day. (OK it wasn't the most active day of the year but anyway, notifications ON, 24hr HR ON)
Maybe FW 4.00 brought some changes?
The battery widget predicts around 7 days which is something we always wished for.

  • I jinxed it Disappointed. i shouldnt have said anything.

in just two hours it is down to 57%, so 4% per hour for doing nothing at all but eat dinner and put the kids to bed.

  • I think it also has to do something with accuracy of battery level indicator. I found out when I have for example around 10% battery, charge it for couple of minutes before going to work so it will charge up to lets say 25%. Then it shows this 25% for almost half of a day before battery level indicator starts to decreasing

regarding battery drain, I had battery consumption around 1.5% per hour after udating to FW4.00 and it was getting worse from day to day, So yesterday I tried factory reset and I also uninstalled all garmin apps frome phone and installed them again. Since this I am on 0,4 % per hour average with same settings as before reset so I would recommend you to give it a try

  • How tought is a factory reset? Will everything be synced back up from the phone? (not as if I had a backup choice anyway LOL)

  • Your daily history data (activities, steps, sleep data...) are synced to your garmin account so this you won't lost, but all watch data settings and applications and so will be lost, so you will have to do all the setup again

  • When I made my changes to the watch face similar to what you did, it was like a totally different watch in terms of battery life.  However, it does sound like you are having some battery callibration issues.  Maybe go through some charge - discharge cycles to see if things smooth out.

  • How is it behaving now? Back to normal? My 4S has been at 100% for the last 10 hours since I charged it this morning.
