So I am asking a question, did I just dish out 399 dollars for a smartwatch that doesn't show proper altitude?

Hi, I got a Legacy saga DV VA4 and learned just today that while I am next to the sea in Netherlands I am 60 meters above sea level. The altitude for the area I was in is 2m btw.

Should I just get a better watch or is there a fix for this? A forerunner user told me to re calibrate the altitude sensor but guess what I can't.

  • Can only calibrate VA4 using GPS.  Select a run activity and wait for GPS. Then wait 30 more seconds and cancel.  GPS  update will correct altimeter, at least using GPS.

Yes, yes you did. The built-in altitude measurement based on barometric pressure is very inaccurate. That's true for any device, but particularly true for Garmins. I go for a run, return to the same spot an hour later, and the elevation has changed by 70 meters.

You can turn on on an option for your activity tracking called "Elevation Corrections," if you can find it. It will use GPS rather than baro. You find it in Garmin Connect online (web version) when you view an activity. It appears under a picture of your device.

  • This worked for now, Thank you!

  • I'll try that out, thanks for your input!
