Vo2 Max still not updating after SW 3.8

Hello,

- I have the vivoactive 4S since September-19.

- It stopped measuring my vo2 Max end of September.

- Then, it measured it ONCE on 6th of Dec, this was right after the update to SW 3.6.

- Now, on December 20th, I received an update for SW 3.8. This resolved the blinking HR sensor when taking the watch off but has NOT resolved the Vo2 Max updates, still stuck on 6th of December.

Does anyone know what’s going on here?

Thanks a lot!

Camilla

  • Always blinking is NOT fixed, confirmed by Garmin. V02 max is updating for me, just got update today. You have to do workout to get V02 max.

Thx, yes of course I have done plenty of workouts, or else I would not expect a measurement. I logged the question since it’s still NOT updating in spite of workouts being logged. At first blinking stopped but indeed now that does not seem to have been fixed either.

  • Hmm, something is happening with V02 max. It was fine when I was writing previous post. Since than dropped?! And history is missing. Just checked again, history is back but not score...

Would be nice to get explanation from Garmin how V02 is actually measured/estimated.

Or if they would I at least announce somewhere that they are aware and working on etc and with an ETA for the solution. I think it’s supposed to measure after a set duration of time doing any type of cardiovascular workout.

  • For now, development is pretty messy. They fix one issue, (re)introduce another. Then fix that, (re)open another one.

V02 max update was broken, got fixed with 3.6 but "always blink" came back. With 3.8 "always blinking" is not fixed and looks like that V02 max is partly broken.

  • I am having the same problem, it stopped on 3-27-20 recording my V02max information and I am working out regularly so that is not the problem.  Thought a setting issue, but from what I have been reading sounds like a software glitch of some kind.  Please fix it garmin as I really like knowing how I am doing on my fitness.

    Thank you,

    Julie

  • In my case is even worse, it's updating only for walking and it's going down after each walk. On another, MTB for hours is not counted at all.

  • Correct me if i'm wrong, but I think the VA4 (or other garmin watches) cannot calculate a VO2max value for MTB because you need a power meter like the garmin vector.

In order to get an update for my VO2max value, the only way is to go for a run. The tracked activity must meet the following conditions:

-GPS tracked activity for a minimum of 15mins

-You have to maintain above 70% of your max heart-rate for at least 10 mins  (example: max rate 193 = 193*0,7 <= 135)

check out this tutorial video by garmin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrjxG7ZD9EE

  • Well, it was working for cycling and MTBing. VO2 max was even updating for HIT (and other cardio workouts) in the gym. Without GPS tracking, of course. Then suddenly stopped. Not the first time, though.

Now is updating when I'm tracking lazy short walk to grocery shop. Which is literally 0.4 miles away and definitely my hart rate is not going above 70%. But didn't update after I made 40 miles of cycling (not MTB) today. And I'm 100% sure that it was updating before even I never had power meter. There is even explanation in help about cycling vs running VO2 max.

  • Mh ok, I'm using the watch since march 20' and my watch never calculated a VO2max value for walking or cycling activities. Only for running activities that match the conditions mentioned.
