Bad gps accuracy

Before My vivoactive 4 I had a forerunner 245 which had great gps accuracy. It was spot on when running on a 400m track. The vivoactive is terrible compared to it. Ran 7 laps and it recorded 3km. Have tried both Gallileo and glonass but the track is almost always 10-20m off where I ran.

Anyone else has this problem?

  • I have now changed my settings back to only GPS and smart update frequents. This has done the trick for me with Firmware GPS v.4.30. It's a lot better now and almost acceptable. Even a lot. closer to my Vivoactive HR, which is probably the best for precision.

My tracing works great, Someone mentioned syncing with Garmin express to update the PCE or something to  improve gps data...

Yes. The pace is much slower and distance is much shorter for me on the VA4s than on my other devices. The map also is wildly inaccurate. I have contacted Garmin, who sent me a replacement watch which has the exact same issues.

I've had my watch for a month and am experiencing the same problems. The gps doesn't kick in until I'm about a half mile into my run and then randomly quits during the run. I switch the gps to Galileo + GPS today to see if that will change my tracking later today and if that doesn't work I'll try just GPS and if that doesn't work I'll just use a secondary phone app. It's really stupid especially since this is supposed to be a safety feature of the watch. Something which I find important as a female runner now with much less daylight to run in. One would think Garmin would try to remedy this problem since that aspect is compromised but clearly since people have been posting about this for more than a year the company doesn't care.  The attached image is what was tracked during a 5k that I was running....super accurate.

  • This is not the best time to test settings for GPS, since Garmin is having a new, global GPS bug that happened two days ago. We need to wait for them to fix this, or use the workaround, which is to wait 5 minutes after getting GPS enabled before starting the activity.

My CPE says current today although I did not have an upgrade done on the watch. Based on what you say - this issue was not something that had to fixed on the watch itself?
