All-day Heart rate Every Second Recording using optical sensor

I'm looking at moving from Fitbit to Garmin and am interested in the Vivoactive 4 or maybe Venu.

I gather the default setting for recording HR is Smart Recording, but I'd like continuous recording all day. On the Garmin site and in the manual, it is not clear if the Every Second recording only applies to activities or also when there is no activity running, i.e. all day.

My current Fitbit Versa only offers continuous, all-day recording

Can anyone say if I can achieve this with the Vivoactive?

Thank you!

Tim

  • Smart recording is for timed activities only.

  • It has something to do with older models with limit data storage. Smart recording only WRITES high resolution metrics to memory if it detects you are doing "something" (best read as not-being-lazy). It is still on 24/7 but the data stored is not that dense.

For the va4 it does not matter, it can store days of data before a sync is needed. Therefore you can perfectly set it to every 1 second .This does not affect battery life, just how much space it takes up, nothing to worry about on the va4, more than enough storage.

What bothers me though is that you have such high resolution data available and the app only shows every 2 mins for daily activity. Workout presentation is per minute if i recal correct.
