Measuring pulse ox; check watch fit everytime

Hi,

Got my Vivoactive 4s on Friday.  Have tried to have pulse ox tracked whilst sleeping, however this hasn't worked, and the only thing it achieved was not measure my heart rate overnight.

I've also tried to do multiple spot checks (via the widget), however it starts measuring, but before it gets halfway, comes up with 'check watch fit'.  I've tried having the watch at different tightnesses, moving it to different places up and down my wrist, but same result everytime.

Anyone else having these issues, or possibly a watch fault?

  • I suspect it is a combination of hardware and software. To be specific, I suspect there are multiple versions of hardware in use and the software is not compatible with all. I say this as my unit has not had all of the issues that are being reported. My pulse ox works (turned to on all the time), respiration works, battery drain issues resolved with the 3.4 update.

I turned my pulse ox to always on Wednesday night. Last charge was Tuesday night before bed. Used Amazon app to play music for about two hours since the last charge. Watch face is Titanium with the display set to altimeter (I assume this uses more power that the step distance field). Battery is currently showing 18% with 67 hours of use.

I called Garmin support and they acknowledged the issue. Garmin released a software update couple of weeks ago that solved it for 98% of the users, but the other 2% still have issues. They were looking into a solution, but could not give a date.

Their representative said they would start replacing watches if there was no progress within a couple of days. Replacing via Garmin would take two weeks so he advised me to go back to the shop I bought it from. I didn't want to wait and got mine replaced the day after and it now works as intended.

  • Thanks ever so much. Think I'll look to return to the retailer, as I've received no update from Garmin.

  • Got a replacement watch from retailer today.....still have exactly the same issue!! They did say that getting a replacement might not solve it, as they think it's a software issue.

Out of interest, those of you who also have this issue, which model of the watch do you have? I have the 4s dusky pink.

  • Got the 4s powder  Same issue.. get no Pulse Ox

  • Has anyone received a fix for this issue?  I've had the device for six weeks now, and the Pulse Ox has never worked.  Every time I email Garmin they say they're still looking into it, and to wait to be updated via email.  So frustrating!

  • I too have the same issue and reported it today via email. Is there any update to your issue?

    This worked for me. Cheers.

  • I got a 4s the other day and have exactly the same issue as Wilhelmina. I'll probably return the watch to the retailer while I still can :(
