V4 Respiratory rate accuracy

I am interested to hear people's feedback on the accuracy of the new respiration rate monitor/widget that was added to the vivoactive 4. I have not purchased a V4, I will probably wait for the venu, but I am very interested in how the respiration monitor is working in the V4 since it will be the same in the venu.

It is surprisingly acurate. Well.... Pretty good. I have counted them and the watch is right on, maybe one more than I counted some times. The graph seems chaotic though. They would do better averaging it out more.

That is good to here. It is amazing your they are using heart rate to pickup your breathing and it is very accurate. I was hoping they had more than a graph on the widget. It is the only watch I have heard of that tracks respiration, nice added feature.

  • I also find it to be suprisingly accurate. Thought it was a gimmick at first. When the watch says 16brpm, i count 16.5 manual. The error is probablly when the minute starts/end in your counting. So yea, it is accurate

My errors far exceed counting breaths correctly. You are probibly correct, depending on when I start to count vs the watch. Regardless, it's more accurate than I thought it would be.

  • Not accurate at all! I do a lot of meditations and breathing exercises and it will read 15bpm when in reality its 3-4 bpm not including breath holds of 2-4 minutes

    1. I agree, it is accurate enough during day time. But when you slow down your breathing the watch wont pick it up. Also during meditations it wont go under 12/14. While I know that I breath 5-9 x per minute.. So it looks like that it had difficulties following slower breath work under 13x a minute.. (during the day) when practis 2-15 min slow breathing.
  • what about faster breathing, have you tried that, I wonder would it pick it up? I never tested it myself but curious to hear what other have experienced.

  • I just did a test, and it's totally off, while I'm having like 5 bpm it shows me 13-14 and tells it's my average too. so I'm guessing that just like with sleep tracking it's way off for me
