My Garmin is not registering my heart rate correctly, it does not move when I do serious exercise

Why does my Garmin not register my heart rate correctly when I do serious exercise.  It stays in rest rate and then all of a sudden jumps up to the correct reading. But that can take up to 10 minutes.  Is there a way to reset my Garmin to be accurate from the beginning

Hello! Please make sure your watch is running the latest software with Garmin Express. Also, here is a helpful article with tips on the heart rate sensor on your watch.

  • Did you find a solution in the end? Im having the same issue for a while already and I've tried multiple things already but no fix unfortunately.

  • The problem is that wrist based heartrate sensors are not that great in the sense that it depends on skin tone and how much blood is flowing under the surface to get a correct reading. For me it typically lags behind 5-10 minutes before it gives values that are sort-of correct. I decided to buy a (cheap) heartrate sensor strap with ANT and connect that to the watch. Works perfectly. I tried a Magene H64 and that worked for a year until it broke, now ordered a Fitcent (chileaf) CL820W to replace it.

  • Might have to do that then. So I can just connect the Venu 2s with the strap? And my calories will be based on the strap? And can I read my bpm on my watch then and is it reading from the strap? Not sure how I can explain it better in English sorry Sweat smile

  • Yes, you can connect external sensors like ANT heart rate to the watch and it replaces the wrist sensor, calculating everything based on the strap reading. The watch will show the heart rate measured by the strap sensor during activities (so not in generic use, only when you start an activity).

  • Thanks for the quick reply. I'm gonna have a look at the Polar H9, a lil more expensive but I can get it straight away and dont need to wait days. It has Bluetooth/ant+ so I assume it works.

  • Polar H9 should work perfectly, you can find the Fitcent and Magene on Amazon probably (got my Fitcent on Amazon). The manual on the Venu2S states it should work with Ant straps, I have a Vivoactive 3 Music and that works fine with ANT+ devices.

Just received my Fitcent CL820W and it connects perfectly. No delay anymore when I start my activity and accurate to the beat. I don't need to spend so much on a strap after all, just a bit of patience. Hope you will tell me if the Polar works for you.
