Has anyone Cracked their Screen on Vivo Active 3 Music?

I have a regular Vivo Active 3 that I just got but am now thinking of getting a Vivo Active 3 Music but am concerned that the screen might be easily scratched or cracked because it's kind of raised a bit and sticks out while the Vivo Active 3 is flat and has that metal bezel around it providing some protection to the screen. A guy RIZKNOWS
on Youtube said he "scratched the heck out of" and cracked the screen on his Vivo Active 3 Music the first day he got it and had never done that with any other fitness or smart watches he has bought or reviewed. So is it a brittle or fragile watch compared to the regular Vivo Active 3, or did he just have some rare bad luck with his Vivo Active 3 Music?
The Vivo Active 3 looks more formal than the Vivo Active 3 Music while the Music looks more like a Off Brand Sports / Smart watch like one of those Sports Watches you buy at a discount department store like Big Lots or Rose's, and doesn't it have a polymer body and rear cover while the Vivo Active 3 is fiber-reinforced polymer with stainless steel rear cover?
  • So Far so good. I had a VA3 with a screen protector. I now have the VA3m for nearly 6 months and I must be lucky, because I don't have any scratches, crack, the screen is as on the 1st day...
For me, the screen seems better than the VA3. The water bead off the screen and the screen is not a fingerprint magnet as I initially feared...

I wear my watch 24/7 for office work and workout, sometimes also for light DIY. On a few occasions I did "bang" my watch against a wall, table corner etc and immediately thought, outch the screen must be damaged. I check the screen, not a scratch, nothing...
Personally, I prefer the look of the VA3m to the VA3.

So far so good for me.
  • In addition to the screen protector I also use this case - https://amzn.to/2WCMWTZ
  • I did not want to take a chance on cracking the screen since I plan on wearing it all the time, even while playing hockey. I purchased the IQ Shield product on Amazon (HERE). Easy to put on (search on YouTube; the instructions are not that great).

You bought the wrong one: you need the one for the VA3 MUSIC: the glass of the two devices have different shapes...
  • Those are the watch face shields that my wife and I use. Done carefully these make a shield that is indistinguishable from the unshielded watchface, I can't tell that it is on at all.

Also, in addition the case I mentioned above I just tried this silicone/rubbery sort of one - https://amzn.to/2t4VS6M In some ways I like it better than the other case I posted a link to above, because it wraps up around the rounded edges. Unfortunately it is kind of non-rigid and moves around when my shirt sleeve swipes across it so I';m not sure how well it would stay in place if something hit it compared to the other case I mentioned.
  • Good catch, Narziss. Here's the link to the correct one (the one that my wife and I bought) - https://amzn.to/2WGCZEV
  • Thank for the link. I am intrigued !!!
    - Are these screen protectors covering the entire screen up to the VA3m plastic case?
    - Do they wrap around the curved edge of the screen?
    - Do they stay on after water immersion (shower), ie don't peel away after a few showers?

for the past few months, I am also wearing my watch 24/7 (unless charging)... without protection and so far so good, not a scratch, but better be cautious than sorry!
  • Yes, the screen protector covers the entire screen/watch face all the way to the very edge of the curved part where it meets the bezel/watch case. With the IQ Shield ones they go on very easily but you do need to take a few extra minutes with the curvature part - once some of the liquid dries (or you use a hair dryer on low) you have to gently hold down the edges here and there as they need a little extra help to adhere to the curve. The edges do try to stick initially but need the extra help as the liquid that you spray on beforehand dries. As it starts to dry I just work my way around and around until it all sticks and then keep checking it (I put the watch on my arm while I am doing this as it is a steady platform to do this with the other hand and I am able to keep checking it for 15 minutes or so). Any places that don't stick just require a gentle press.

This works fine being immersed in water. Don't ask me how as there isn't a very sticky adhesive like tape, but there is some sort of adhesive that comes off easily if you want to replace the shield.

The box in the link - https://amzn.to/2Gq359C - has 6 screen protectors so if you REALLY screw up there's plenty, and supposedly they have a lifetime warranty.

Here's a pic of the screen - very very smooth and hard to tell it's there (also shows the case cover).ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1451739.jpg
  • I've had mine for about 7 months, and haven't been particularly gentle with it, including wearing during roller derby practice a couple times a week (up until last week I had a wrist guard that didn't cover the watch, so the screen was exposed), and just the other day noticed a very small scratch on the side of the face. I'd say it's pretty tough, and the reviewer either had some really bad luck or abused it.

Might check out those screen protectors, though! Thanks for the links.
  • BTW, the TPU and silicone cases I mentioned above say they are made for the Vivoactive 3 and not the Vivoactive 3 Music but they work just fine on the 3 Music.
