Failed update on Sync (Biometrics Data)

Hi All,

My VA3 seems to be stuck with an update queued that it is unable to complete. I first noticed on the connect mobile app that I was getting a red exclamation mark near my device after syncing and it said there was some server connection issue. I also noticed about this time (but it may be unrelated) that Physio Ture up did not appear to be working. Where I previously would get activities from my Edge 520 appearing on my VA3, this had stopped, but it may be due to a firwmare update or some other cause.

Anyway, I tried syncing with the PC and it is also unable to complete a sync, but I get more information (assuming the same issue??) and I have attached a screen shot to this post. I get an error that "Some files could not be sent to your device" and also "Biometrics Data (Not Compatible)"

I am not sure how to clear this issue. I don't know if it is causing the Physio True Up issue I have or not, but I would like to sort that out, as I like that feature and it is no-longer working.Other than that, the only real issue is the exclamation mark which is not a biggie if everything else works OK.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Cheers,

  • So further to this, it seems like an option to try to fix this would be to do a factory reset of the watch. The only problem with this is that all the settings like data pages for my activities will be lost. Is there a way to save these settings and then re-import them later after a reset to save me spending a lot of time adjusting all the setting back to what I like?
  • I found this, when I did my first/last reset, of my VA3 (similar issue): https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/?faq=hWholZ8uPZ6PboXu5Nf7d6
It "sort of" worked, except that it hosed some other things, which I didn't make note of (maybe 5-6 weeks ago now). Anyway, I do recall thinking I had to be much more surgical/selective on the restore side of things; I think my "current data" overlapped my actual (newer, since the reset) data, and made a mess.
Anyway, I ended up resetting, twice, and giving up at the time, on trying to get my data/settings back, this way (but it does appear as if it works for some, so I think just more care needs to be taken on restore, and ideally a modification from Garmin Support, on this article).
I found your post while trying to find a better way to reset, myself, because something has nuked my watch since 5.50, and the battery is draining like crazy (perhaps my "Crystal" watch face, my only non-Garmin mod), so I figure I must've made some change in settings, that I'm just not finding.
I came from FitBit a couple of months ago, so I'm used to the 1-2 minute "total factory reset", where the app just syncs the data back to the watch (as you'd expect, in 2018...).
  • I also noticed about this time (but it may be unrelated) that Physio Ture up did not appear to be working.

My bet is that they ARE related.

When I hadf just one Garmin with Physio TrueUp capability, I never had to sync Biometrics data, Since I have both Edge 530 and Fenix 5+, after each of my activities made with any of these 2 devices I have to sync Biometrics data. So there is a very high probability that sending Biometrics data equals to the "enforcement" of TrueUp.
