I did mine via Garmin Express - but at least there is no difference getting via that or via the phone.
It is a file transfer and execution on the watch after.
For me no boot loop.

I contacted garmin support four times, they said that they didn't know what the issue was, but would work on a fix, with no timeline.
They also refused an exchange because they were working on a fix.
Had no communication from then since then.
Pretty bad service and support

The decision to not exchange the device was due to the fact that, in your instance, it was clearly a software issue. There is no benefit to an exchange because the behavior is not driven by hardware and will continue to reproduce on a new watch.
I do apologize for the time it is taking to research the issue, I can assure you that we are actively working on it.
The behavior on your device is different than the original post. I would definitely recommend calling Support
How long is reasonable to wait, days, week, months years? it been over 10 days and I have had no communication on progress or prospective timeline. At the moment it is just an expensive paperweight and not fit for purpose.
