Locked Out !

I'm an established Garmin user just bought and used the Venu X1 for my first pool swim ....

Things did not go so well.

I started the swim and the screen was locked during the activity automatically.  A minor inconvenience not being able to change screens from that default shown   (not including distance!) to say another one during activity.

HOWEVER

After Swim the screen is still locked and there is no **&@^@& way to unlock it.

Short pressing top right and bottom right buttons works to start and stop and lap activity which I dont want

Long press top right or bottom right buttons does what I programmed them to do in non activity modes ie for me  top right = control  (the equivalent of the circular panel on say my 970 press and hold top left)

Long press bottom right switches on and off the LED light.

30 minutes later I and the whole [tech savvy] family has had a go at unlocking.  We looked at the online manual

https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/GUID-C144B465-A0C8-4FE9-AFE6-41A3FE3F1D9A/EN-US/Venu_X1_OM_EN-US.pdf

We tried tapping and holding, and swiping down for touch lock.  NO WORKY

We held and pressed the two buttons together , very long time.  We managed to summon 'crash assistance' and eventually powered off the watch

Now I pressed top right and the blue triangle is there for over 5 minutes now,  so the watch does not even seem to be rebooting correctly.

Main question is   :  How should I have unlocked the watch

Sub Question is:  When the Blue triangle of boot seems to be the blue triangle of death, is there a recommended recovery action?

  • My watch updated earlier today to version 10.63 from 10.60 - but I don't see an update on the web page for the Venu X1 https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/?faq=0WkaGRXh1j1fYeX2DX9KY5 does this update address the swim lockscreen issue?

  • They are still actively working on a fix for the swim lock screen behavior, It was not included in 10.63. The information I received didn't have much detail. I will see if I can get more

  • I tried a swim with the auto lock switched off - it seemed to work ok - I had to start my activity timer before submerging it - wait for it to go into auto rest mode which it does after a couple of seconds then start a lap. That seems to work - do a few laps - stop the activity then start a new one in the same way. The water interaction seems to sometimes switch the screen view - but not frequently happened once to me in a short session.

  • Hi

Experiencing the same issues. Any updates on this?

    Cheers

    Michael

  • A couple of weeks on - still swimming without the lock on. It works ok, but the water interaction with the screen does do a few odd things. One is that sometimes my watch starts playing music with the Spotify app while I'm swimming. It also flicks to other data screens when swimming - the activity is still going and auto rest still works but it can be a bit confusing. Still, it's workable, just not ideal.

  • All,

Please see our recently released beta software (Venu X1 Beta - 12.59)  for a fix addressing this report. If you prefer to not install this beta software, we hope to be rolling out a public software update soon, though I do not have a timeline for this release. If you are still seeing this issue after installing the beta software, please contribute your observations in the appropriate beta bug reports section of the beta forums for your specific device.

Enrolling in Garmin Beta Software Program

  • I've moved to the beta for my morning swim today and found that the auto lock works much better now.

All interaction with the screen is locked from the moment you switch to the swim activity so rather than wait for the activity to detect a rest before submerging it I can now hit the start button as I push off. Only gripe now is that the watch seems to go back to the watch face after you select the swim activity but haven't yet started it on a time out. I'm not 100% sure about this but when pushed off this am I found that the activity had gone so had to start again. That aside - looks good

  • Yesterday's swim with beta 12.59 included a couple of frustrations which I've raised in the beta software bug forum - posting here just so swimmers are aware - not sure if the issues are unique to beta 12.59 or are present in 10.63 as well.

    Starting a swim is complicated

Starting in the pool, if I get ready to start a swim with the watch screen indicating to press the top button to start the swim, when I submerge the watch ready to push off on my first lap the watch screen switches off and when I press start it's gone back to the watch face. Some patience and waiting for the lock to appear before submerging seemed to allow me to start the activity as desired but it seems inconsistent - had to try several times before starting my swim. After that the screen lock seemed to work more consistently with the screen staying on and no unintended water activations.

Unwanted auto resume after auto rest

I got out of the pool to go to the changing room during a rest. The watch detects I've stopped swimming and automatically rests. It then indicates to press the lap button to begin the next lap. However, getting out of the pool and using my arms generated a couple of additional laps and rests - experimenting with this I found that making a freestyle movement with my arm when the activity is in auto rest causes it to auto resume.

Workaround to prevent auto resume - stop the activity - you can resume it later when you return to the pool.
