Failed to upload activity - brand new Venu Sq

I got a new Venu Sq yesterday.

Went for a walk and the activity saved and synced to Garmin Connect with no problems.  I went for a run this morning and the activity appeared to save but failed to sync to Connect.

On checking the activity in the Venu's history it is dated  with 31 Dec 89, 0 steps, 0 calories, no HR data.

I tried to manually import the .fit file but the file appears to be corrupted.

Logged into Garmin Express and couldn't do a software update as the internal memory is full.

Any suggestions?
