After 2.69 update when I unplug the charger the watch dies

It simply says 100%, i take out the charger and goes black.

I plug in the charger again, it boots up, showing the blue triangle, shows me again 100% and then I can repeat the same scenario.

After a couple of days sitting in a drawer, it goes down to ~96%....

Looks more like a SW than HW issue.

  • I apologize for this disruption. please contact Garmin Support in your region. It is possible that your device will need to be exchanged, and exchanges cannot be initiated via the Forums

  • Thanks, Tracy. I already reached out to my local Garmin support, but unfortunately, since my watch is 2 years and 3 months old, it’s just slightly outside the warranty period.

What’s frustrating is that everything worked flawlessly until the 2.69 firmware update, after which the watch no longer powers on unless it’s connected to the charger. It shows 100% battery, but the moment I unplug it, it shuts off.

Given that the issue appeared immediately after a software update, it feels like a firmware‑induced malfunction, not a natural battery failure. Support only offered me ~10% off a new purchase at full catalogue price, but that’s hard to accept when the fault was clearly triggered by the update, not by misuse or ageing hardware.

I’ve already shared logs and serial number details, and the feedback I received said there is no in‑country repair service and only a paid replacement option. For a premium brand like Garmin, this kind of experience is discouraging—especially since I’ve been a loyal user and even convinced others to buy into the ecosystem.

There’s also no comparable model available for replacement. The Venu Sq 2 has been discontinued, and Garmin has not introduced any square replacement watch with AMOLED display and features in a similar price range.

So, the only realistic way to remain in the Garmin ecosystem would be for Garmin to help with a replacement or repair of this unit, since even purchasing a new one is no longer an option through official channels.

I’d really appreciate if you could escalate this case for review or offer goodwill consideration similar to other users who received out‑of‑warranty replacements for post‑update failures. It would go a long way towards restoring confidence in Garmin products and support.

  • I had a similar issue and my watch was only 17 months old. I've had great support from Garmin in the past but this time, they were no help at all - in fact - what t6hey offered was almost insulting. I liked my watch but for the moment it sits in a drawer hoping for an update that fixes the battery drain.

I wouldn't buy another SQ2 even if it weren't discontinued. The battery should last more than 17 months.

BTW, both my Vivoactive 1 and 3's batteries are weaker than when they were new but they still last 2 to 3 days.
