Battery drain on Version 2.68

I believe I had the battery drain issue on my Venu SQ2 version 2.66 that others had experienced.  I noticed last week I updated to 2.68.  The two times I recharged with version 2.68 the battery went from 100% to around 80% shortly afterwards (within an hour).

  • Me too. I think the issue can go back as far as version 2.66 when I started getting really bad battery performance

  • I received another update this morning.  Still at V2.68.

  • Garmin support suggested there was an issue with Venu SQ2 and they offered an exchange for a fee.  This was my response:

This (exchage offer) is a very disappointing response for two reasons.
First, you are inferring that the Venu SQ2 may be faulty since you are offering an exchange.  I would expect that my Venu SQ2 would last longer than not even two years.  Why would I want another one if that is the case?  I will certainly post this question on the Garmin forum page.
Second, if you review the forums you will find that many people are complaining of a battery drain issue once they received firmware update 2.66 as also seems to be my case.  I have a stronger belief that there is a firmware issue, especially since I have received an update on Jan 24 and again on Jan 30.  It would certainly appear that Garmin is trying to fix something.
  • I fear that was only a battery drain because a botched software update has only worsened. Now it will only turn on when connected to a PC (even at 100% battery) then it will quickly lose charge. Garmin what kind of quality is this? This watch didn't even make two years

  • I asked Garmin to downgrade my firmware/sofware.  Response was, "We don't have an option to downgrade the software on the watch. The only option if you have tried all troubleshooting would be to exchange the watch, since the device is outside of the warranty it would come with a fee."

My watch won't even turn on now without being connected to the charger.  On youtube @stanleym replaced the battery in his Venu SQ but the new battery drained in an hour.  At the end of the video he captions, "A new battery will be dead after an hour - SW Garmin does not allow exchange and it still drains the new battery very quickly."

I am giving up on Garmin.  They clearly have an issue but their only solution offered was for me to pay for another watch that I fear will have the same issue.  I don't plan to buy a new watch every two years.  I have fitbits much older than this that still work fine.

  • I am seeing this as well. It seems to be better if I leave the watch on the charger after it's at 100%. Got distracted one day and it stayed on charge for couple hours after 100%. It drops down but not nearly as fast. Tested it a few more times and it seems to hold true at least for mine. Maybe it is not really at 100% when it first shows it.

  • I took my Venu SQ2 apart today after giving up on Garmin support and am sad to say it looks like the Lipo battery has swelled.  This is usually an indication of battery failure
