Garmin Tempe temperature sensor substitute?

Garmin has discontinued their Tempe temperate sensor, due to what they said were safety issues with the button batteries in many countries. I find this odd and this sensor has the same screw type access to the battery as some other Garmin devices.

These sensors are VERY handy if you want ambient temperature. Some Garmin watches have a temperature sensor, but to get an accurate reading, the watch must be removed from your wrist.

While it is still possible to get a Tempe sensor from the USA or UK (and probably elsewhere), I was wondering if anyone had used an equivalent third party Bluetooth temperature sensor?
