My vo2 max has not recorded since mid Nov 23. Until that time it worked fine. I haven't altered any settings. Numerous other posts on this site have reported the same thing. I'm guessing it has more to do with the update that occurred at about that time than with my ability to operate the watch. When is the next update happening, it may fix the problem.
