Running Heart Rate

Hi,

Has something happened to the average heart rate on the watch recently? I am a bit confused why mine is suddenly showing 176, 184 and 191 on my last 3 runs.

It also seems the rate from Jan 1 until the last 3 runs was too low. The attached screenshot shows my runs from Nov. I had a Venu 2 until the end of the year and as you can see, the heart rate is quite consistent at 140s/150s. Then, when I received my Venu 4 for Christmas and started running in the year it shows in the 130s. And then in last week has gone bonkers.

My assumption is a firmware update might have tried to fix the lower heart rate issue but broken it? Anyone with any idea? Thanks!

  • Hi !

I have the same problem with my heart rate calculation. My watch is a vivoactive 5 and showed a heart rate between 180 and 200 during my last 3 runs. I've tested a second watch simultaneously during my last run (a Garmin forerunner 235), my vivoactive at one wrist and the other to the other one. My vivoactive showed 194 and the other one 145 at one moment and the difference between the two heart rates was between 40 and 50 during the entire run (I switched the wrists they were attached to so it's not a problem of right or left wrist).

What is going on Garmin ? For info, I have the last system update 17.01 and my captor version is 35.10.

I've bought this watch for the heart rates during running and it doesn't work so I'm really disappointed !!!

  • I have been working with Garmin Support on this and if you change the maximum HR on your device it stops the algorithm from trying to match the cadence, which has reduced the HR reported in my runs. Although it is now showing lower than I would expect but need to look into this further.
