Garmin, why do you mess with the custom settings of my Venu 4 during an update?

A software update took place today early in the morning. When I did my run later this day I noticed all custom settings have changed, and mostly into something utterly useless. BPM wasn’t even there, but time to sundown and body battery were. What were you thinking? How can this be useful during a run?

Even without these mishaps the watch is difficult to operate, probably due to the overly complex menu.

- Accident detection is a useful feature, and I set it to “on”, but as soon as I press the start button and start my run, it first turns off accident detection. Why? What were you thinking?

- Lock screen can be a useful feature, but I switched it off. Every time I run, lock screen comes on automatically, and if you don’t touch your screen for a few seconds, you have to unlock it again. Why? What are you thinking? When I exercise, I want to easily flip through my screens, and not fight the unlock swipe.

  •  Thank you very much for voicing your concerns. I'd like to address each of these points individually so we can help get your Venu 4 working as expected:

    1. Custom settings: After updating to 15.33, you mention that during your run, you no longer see heart rate data, but you see sunset and body battery data. Where are you seeing this data on your watch? Heart rate and sunset are a data fields that are available for activity profiles, but body battery is only available as a glance in your watch's widget loop. Do you mean that the heart rate glance has disappeared from your widget loop? Or are you referring to the data fields you see within your Run activity profile?

    2. Incident detection: Some watches allow you to disable incident detection for certain activities, so it sounds like you may have this feature disabled for your run activity. To enable it, go to your watch's Menu > Settings > Safety & Tracking > Incident Detection > make sure it's toggled on for "Run".

    3. Lock screen: For newer Garmin watches, the touchscreen locks during activities by default. However, you can turn that off by adjusting your watch's Focus Mode settings. Click here for full instructions on how to do that. In step 9, select "Off" to disable touch lock during activities.
