Please add feature to turn off auto (adaptive) brightness

I just received a Venu 4, and spent some time trying to find the option to turn off adaptive brightness (which I find very annoying) but couldn't find one.  I thought my watch had a problem, until I did some research and found out that there is no way to turn that off.  I've never seen any modern device lack the ability to turn this off.  Please Garmin, add this feature.  I want the same brightness no matter the ambient light, and with the Venu 4, adaptive brightness does not work well, as the screen gets way too dark to the point that I cannot easily read the screen.  Honestly I have yet to see a manufacturer implement this well, and prefer to turn it off completely in all devices I use.

Thank you

  • Hi,

I purchased the Garmin Venu 4 yesterday, and I’ve noticed a persistent issue with the display brightness in dark environments. Specifically, it takes about 20 seconds for the screen to reach full brightness when I'm in a dark room. During this time, the screen remains very dim and difficult to read. We tested this at least 30 times, and the delay is consistent every time.

    I did:

    1. Performed a factory reset,

    2. Ensured Sleep Mode and Battery Saver are turned off,

    3. Set Brightness to High and disabled Auto Brightness.

Despite these steps, the issue continues — the display is not immediately visible in the dark and only becomes readable after around 20 seconds. This is disturbing as I can't see display properly in the dark. During the day is ok. Can this be fixed as I'm thinking to return it.

  • Hello Everyone -

I have redirected 3 posts to this one.

    1) This allows for a single focus point and a way to watch impact without missing information on other posts

    2) I have already added everyone who has posted to this point to the  support case

    Thanks for your patience

  • One day one of the Venu 4 coming out I posted this issue and Paskaseva replied with "it seems to be the way it is" I did not see that thread imbedded in this main one. This is a BIG issue for most people out in the dark!!

  • I think the real issue is not the "auto-brightness" feature being removed. The issue is the inconsistent and erratic auto-brightness behavior on (some) Venu 4's. See my video showing the clear difference on how my Venu 3 and Venu 4 operates in the dark:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWxjjn6j6JA

I think people find this very annoying (so do I) and wish for manual control. But what the majority of people (including me) really need is properly working auto-brightness, like as in Venu 3 (again, see video above).

I'm not sure if this is a hardware or a software issue. If it were a software issue, I am guessing a lot more people would be complaining.

About auto-brightness: I have no issues with this "feature" being removed. Otherwise we'd have to adjust brightness manually each time we move indoors and outdoors, because the light levels indoors and outdoors are vastly different. We don't notice this difference as much because our eyes also have auto-brightness.

  • I wish you did not join all threads into one, because there are two different topics. This thread is about a feature request, the ability to turn off auto-brightness. I do not want that. What I want is the auto-brightness working properly and consistently on my Venu 4, as it does on my Venu 3, as I showed in this video:

  • I agree all topics should not have been merged. We all have a common problem that we want different solutions for. Auto brightness does not behave in a predictable manner. You want that to be fixed. I want manual control.

Even if they get auto brightness working perfectly I still want manual control. I don't like relying on a device to predict what I want. I don't use auto brightness on my phone, tablet, computer or even in my car. It's super frustrating that I am forced to use it on my watch.

I have no problem setting the brightness level myself. On my Venu 2 it was set at 70% and that worked for almost all situations. If I needed to change it that's what the quick setting menu is for.

Ideally Garmin would offer both solutions to this problem. Give manual control to those who want it, and fix auto brightness for those who like that feature.

  • Garmin is suggestling us to do a feature request?! This is not a feature request, this is an issue, which they should solve immediately.. The touch screen should lit up 100% when you toch it..
