Mutlisport Activity Bug

The issue I ran into seems quite similar to one voiced a handful of times on the Forerunner forums starting as far back as 6 years ago. When logging a multisport activity, the specific one I did alternated between cardio and HIIT, it cumulatively logged each exercise as I went. Additionally, the Rounds in each HIIT activity stopped properly populating after Round 2 in the first HIIT session and didn't show the rest portions in sessions 2 & 3. I was able to completely delete the exercises that auto added to each cardio session of the multisport activity; however, could only edit the exercises added to each HIIT section, not delete. Screenshots below (after I made updates) to hopefully make things more clear:

HIIT Session 1:

HIIT Session 2 - everything blank (1-5) was a dupe from HIIT session 1 (excluding the rest intervals. it only replicated the sets). The last :15 seconds, I have no idea. And as you can see, no rests even though they were tracked on the watch:

HIIT Session 3:

Has anyone else run into this? Is any of it expected behavior?

  • Hello!

Software update 14.12 is at full release as of today contained a fix It appears to resolved this behavior. Please let me know if this is not the case.

  • Hi, I just did a quick test and, unfortunately, the behavior is the same except rests weren't reflected in any of the sets. :/ Also, I confirmed that my watch is on version 14.12. Thanks!

  • Thanks for the update - I am going to setup a new support case. It would help if you could upload your Garmin Connect App Logs using this article https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=NIbaQDEokX6jgAN1k2fKj7 and the reference code 5K9XY

  • Done, thank you. My watch also froze ~4.5 minutes in on a hike activity on Friday, if that can please be looked into as well. I was able to do a hard restart and then resume the activity.

  • Two additional issues/questions:

    1. Twice I've had a pretty significant delay in certain workouts syncing to Garmin Connect
      1. First time it happened, I rebooted my watch, my phone, checked on the app and online - nothing
        1. Maybe hours later it showed up?
      2. TBD when today's will show, finished roughly 1 hour ago
    2. I attempted another multi-sport today
      1. Selected multi-sport, started with cardio
        1. Was able to switch from cardio to strength (free) if I stopped the activity by pressing the top button, waited a couple seconds, and then a menu with the second option of "next activity" popped up
        2. Each time I tried to switch from strength, I couldn't find a way.
          1. If I pressed the stop button during the strength sets, a menu with "Stop workout" and "Settings" popped up
          2. If I pressed the stop button during the rest portion after a set, a menu with the above two options plus "Edit Sets" would come up
          3. Swiping right took me to music options
          4. Swiping left took me to "Edit Sets" (first in the menu if I swipe left during a rest, not part of the menu if I swipe left while doing a set (just for clarity on what I was seeing)) then "Rest Countdown" "Undo Sport Change / Return to Cardio" "Strength Settings" "Watch Settings"
            1. I was hesitant to "undo sport change", so I googled it. Supposedly my strength sections wouldn't be lost.
            2. I went ahead and selected undo sport change and returned to cardio and continued to do this throughout the rest of the workout
              1. I did notice that my active calories were incredibly low during the workout and, unfortunately, when I finished the workout and went to save, it did indeed only clock the cardio portions. All three strength sections are missing. Calories are way off since the strength sections seem completely lost. I worked out for 49:37 total. ~17:52 minutes of cardio over four sets and three sets of strength over ~31:45
                1. (Though there were a couple minutes spent doing the googling and I couldn't figure out how the heck to pause my workout since I was in a strength set. Maybe stopping it would have been ok and then I would have had the option to resume?)

Is this expected behavior? Operator error? I'm definitely willing to accept this was operator error, but, if so, how do you change back from Strength to Cardio?

I'm hoping I can maybe make edits to the workout once it does post to Garmin Connect. TBD.

  • Hello!

Thank you for uploading the App logs, I am working on the support case for that.

    For your two additional questions

    1) Are you force closing the Garmin Connect app on your iPhone. If you manually hit the sync button in the app do the activities come over?

    2) When doing Strength activities, Sets are managed with the bottom button. If you tap the bottom button to stop the set, then hit the top button you should get an option to end workout and then the next activity option will appear.

  • May I sent you a direct message?

  • Great, thanks.

    1) I am not sure how to force close the app. I close by swiping up (iPhone). They do not sync, no. My second activity from yesterday is still missing.

    2) ok. confusing that moving from cardio there is a clear "Switch Activity" option, but moving from strength you need to first stop the activity, but thank you for clarifying. Will there be a way to fix the missing data from the multisport activity yesterday once it does sync? The cardio shows up in history on my watch, just still not in the app.

*yes, a DM is likely easiest. Thanks!
