Software Update Committment

Since the Venu 4 has moved to the unified OS, has Garmin committed to a length of time to provide software updates like many competitors? As an owner of a Venu 3, Epix, 2 - forerunners, this is my hesitation in moving forward with another Garmin product.

  • Same here. Buying an Epix 2 Pro and the learning that after less than 2 years it won*t receive any new features like Fenix 8 or Forerunner 970 series currently keeps me from buying another Garmin watch. It seems like an overdue move on Garmin‘s part to guarantee buyers that the models with Unified OS will receive all new features for at least three years.

  • I completely agree.
But before we talk about that, the advertised features of the Venu 4 should work properly first.
For example, sending data directly from Apple Maps to Garmin/the watch. -> Currently faulty and not possible.
Or the turn-by-turn directions in the navigation -> unfortunately also faulty.
Reliable outdoor runs without the watch freezing -> also faulty.
I keep asking myself why the watches are usually so unfinished when they come onto the market, and it confirms time and again that you should never buy them on release... Too bad.

  • No, they did not commit.

Garmin's short software feature update support has nothing to do with unified OS, it is due to their business model to stimulate users to buy new watch to get new features.
