Venu 3 - GPS issue - OS 16.07

Good morning,

I have recently noticed a sudden deterioration in my watch's GPS detection.

I should mention that my typical workouts involve repetitions of 50 to 200 meters, and I understand that no Garmin watch is specifically designed for this type of training but rather for much longer activities.

In any case, this has never been a problem. I have always uploaded my workouts, and the watch would stop the repetitions about 2/3 steps after completing the actual distance. Even in the worst cases, it never went beyond 4/5 meters of error (then reporting a slightly increased distance in the summary), which I accepted gracefully since, as I already mentioned, these watches are not made for this type of activity, and the final distance was still reported correctly.

Last week, the watch downloaded and installed two software updates (I am currently on OS version 16.07 and GPS version 13.00). In this week's workouts, the measurement discrepancies during my runs have become prohibitive. Specifically:

  • For all 50-meter repetitions, the watch stopped the distance 15 to 20 meters later, still indicating 50m as the distance covered.

  • For all 60-meter repetitions, it finished the measurement around the 80-meter line, sometimes even indicating a distance shorter than 60 meters.

  • The same issue occurred for longer distances. In all cases (even for 100m), the repetitions were concluded with up to 20 meters of error, indicating for example during a 100m a distance covered of 100 meters or less.

When I tried to manually stop the watch at the finish line, the GPS reported 10 to 15 meters less than the distance covered.

I have tried testing the GPS accuracy by walking the same route slowly, and the distance was measured correctly. The only possibility that has occurred to me is that the latency in the GPS measurement has increased, causing the watch to conclude the repetitions several meters (and time) after the actual finish point.

I want to note that, as always, I have all GPS systems active, and all activities are recorded outdoors.

Best regards
