15.05 fault : watch volume control no longer working

Hi, I'd like to report a fault with my Venu 3 that has started immediately after being upgraded to 15.05 firmware.

Symptoms:

  • Going into the volume control area when playing on-device music (MP3 files) shows max volume, when normally this would show the volume of the connected headphones
  • Neither the 'up' or 'down' areas of the touchscreen have any function, when normally touching the respective half of the screen would raise/lower volume

In terms of resolution attempts, I have:

  • powered off and restarted the Venu 3 twice
  • tried both earbuds and headphones
  • unpaired and re-paired my headphones
  • unpaired and re-paired my headphones
  • removed all known bluetooth devices from the Venu 3
  • done multiple power-offs as well as the 'reset' process on my earbuds, and turned my headphones on and off

Workaround:

I am able to control volume via the earbuds and headphone hardware control (not ideal as I need to remember each device's specific control paradigms).

Questions:

  1. Is this a known issue with a planned resolution date, or is there something I can do to resolve?
  2. How can I downgrade my watch's firmware to the previous working version?
  3. How can I prevent my Venu 3 from automatically upgrading in future either through an official process, or unofficial hacks? (If the current firmware does what I need, then the only thing a new firmware can do is make my experience the same or worse, so to me the risk assessment says I should stay on the same firmware until I discover a feature that doesn't work for me.)
  • Has anyone heard an update on this or found a resolution? I'm still having volume control issues on my venu 3s

  • Has anybody heard an update about this or come up with a solution? I'm still having volume control issues on my venu 3s

  • Don't hold your breath. Garmin is notorious for not offering bug fix updates for their « end-of-life » devices, and I'm afraid the Venu 3 started to qualify as such nowadays.

  • We have identified the issue and a fix will be in an upcoming software release. Currently there is not a timeline for this release, we will keep you informed as new information becomes available.

  • At least for me the latest beta update from yesterday afternoon (16.05) has fixed the problem!

  • Please see our recently released beta software (16.05) for a fix addressing this report. If you prefer to not install this beta software, we hope to be rolling out a public software update soon, though I do not have a timeline for this release. If you are still seeing this issue after installing the beta software, please contribute your observations in the appropriate beta bug reports section of the beta forums for your specific device.

Enrolling in Garmin Beta Software Program

Important note about ECG App: Moving forward, the Beta software available for the Venu 3/3S will have the ECG feature disabled. If you would prefer to keep the ECG App feature accessible on your watch, we recommend not participating in the Public Beta program. The ECG App feature will be made available again on versions of beta software that we anticipate becoming Live updates. In other words, you will see the ECG feature become enabled again in Beta software toward the end of our quarterly beta cycles. The ECG App feature will remain available with Live software updates (on compatible watches)
