14.15 update broke my golf - Venu 3 will no longer open my Golf course

Summer is here so we are back to our summer golf course. Last year I was happily using my Venu 3 to play this version of the course.

The update to 14.10 happened just before the course change over, and the problem continues in 14.15.

The norm is to press button A to open the choices, select Golf, allow the watch to find the GPS satellites, and select the course to play. The Venu 3 then downloads the course. Pressing button A should then open the course, make me select Mens or Ladies even though it is ALWAYS the same (do they think I change sex from time to time?), and show the first hole.

It doesn't. Instead of opening the course, it kicks me back to the Apps and Activities menu.  The watch will happily let me load and play the winter course but the holes are not all the same. So far it has happened many times whilst waiting to tee off and further attempts during recent rounds.

I've tried deleting the courses from both the Garmin Connect app and the Garmin Golf app on my phone, and reloading them. I've restarted the watch umpteen times. I was about to post and found that there was an update, so I've updated to 14.15 and it still doesn't work as it should. This evening I have tried many times. 4 failed, one actually loaded the course. But then I tried again many more times, and each failed.

Since 14.10, and now 14.15, the course has only twice (whilst at home) loaded and appeared ready to play - but it is not repeatable either at home or at the course.

Other local courses will download and open but clearly that is no use.

How can I get my watch to open Durham City Golf Club course?

Update 25th May : email reply from garmin support implying unknown issue and suggested check in Garmin Express for updates, and asked for pictures or a video. Sent.

Update 30 May: Support suggested reading g the manual on how to download a course using garmin connect. I was rather upset that the agent clearly hadn't read this forum thread where I stated I'd done this.

Whenever I get time to phone, their phone lines are closed sos I will try to make time on Monday to ring.

  • We have released Venu 3/3s beta software update 15.00 that is now available to all members of the beta program. After installing this newest software version, if you are still experiencing this disruption after installing the beta and are willing to upload the courses.txt from your device, please let me know and I will send you steps to do so.

Important note about ECG App: Moving forward, the Beta software available for the Venu 3/3S will have the ECG feature disabled. If you would prefer to keep the ECG App feature accessible on your watch, we recommend not participating in the Public Beta program. The ECG App feature will be made available again on versions of beta software that we anticipate becoming Live updates. In other words, you will see the ECG feature become enabled again in Beta software toward the end of our quarterly beta cycles. The ECG App feature will remain available with Live software updates (on compatible watches).

  • Yes, please send me steps to download the file.  The watch gives yardages accurate, I just really like the hazards options to work again.

  • what do you suggest for me who did not see this warning prior to joining the beta? i only bought the watch to use the ECG app mainly and now after trying resets and all sorts, cant seem to roll back to the previous version. please please please can you help me?

  • what do i do after joining beta and not seeing this message? i need ECG back for my health

  • Unfortunately there is not a way to roll-back to a non beta version. You will need to wait until the full software update is released. Currently there is not a definitive timeline for that release.

  • I updated my Venu 3 to beta v 15.00 and the golf app works fine now. Thanks for making this available - great work by the dev team!

  • OK, I installed the Venu 3 beta and the device now shows V15.00. Today I played golf for the first time since the update. Searching for Satellites - Downloading courses - Press Start and then back to menu as previously. Powered off the device and powered on. This time I managed start the golf app and everything appeared fine, even the distance to the hazards worked on the first hole Progressed to the 2nd hole and the distance to hazards was greyed out. This continued for the remaining holes. As far as I can see this beta update has not improved my situation and in fact it is now worse because the ECG app says not available in the beta version.
Please can you give us the option to revert back to a prior, known good, firmware until you can successfully sort the issue out. I've now missed my return window to return the Venu 3 so I will have to wait it out. Wishing now I had bought a dedicated golf GPS device.

  • Agree. Installed Venu 3 beta and shows V15.00. Still cannot access golf courses consistently. Does it one time and not the next. Piece of crap. Would not recommend Venu 3 to anyone until software is fixed.

  • im the same, absolutely disgusting isnt it, no way to revert back to live version, INSANE for a £450 watch less than a year old. they really need to fix this and fix ecg on beta, or let me revert back, awful awful service
