Venu 3 golf app not recording shots

After using the golf app for this watch for more than a year I am giving up. It is unreliable and causes frustration on the golf course. It auto records a few shots, but it misses most.

  • I'm the same on a Forerunner 955. Started after either an update or my connect+ trial expired. Assuming due to a few having this issue it is a sw issue?

  • I never recorded which club I was using, but would always use the feature that counted off the yardage from the previous shot location to help me find roughly where my ball would be if I didn't hit the fairway. Really missing that feature now, and nothing I've done the previous few weeks seems to have worked. Toggled all the settings in the golf app on the watch, tried various settings on the Garmin Golf app on my phone. Disconnected and repaired the watch with my phone, tried to select a club, tried the record shot feature, etc.

Really hope this is fixed sometime soon, the golf season is rather short here, would hate to need to switch to a different product.

  • Update on my end. It seems to work fine for my 9 hole rounds when i shut down the watch for a few minutes then power back on before ii go to the course. Still misses some short chips and always putts, but otherwise works as expected. But i need to remember to shut down completely before the round. Not ideal and not sure if it will last for a full 18, but at least it’s working for the most part.

  • Same here. If I turn off the watch and turn it back on before the round, it seems to work fine. When I turn it back on, and start the golf app it does download the course again. It no longer asks what club I used nor if I hit the fairway and it doesn’t track my round as a workout (even though I walk the whole round and carry my clubs, although it used to track even when I had a cart). It worked for a full 18 but did get glitchy on the last hole (missed the fairway shot after my drive).

  • Update: today it worked well over 18 holes, butt I wonder if I can rely on in future.

  • I think this is why they're having trouble reproducing the issue because it's sporadic.

  • Played a round Thursday last week and with the "Club Prompt" setting turned on for the first time ever I was prompted on roughly 1/3rd of my non-putt shots to select a club. After selecting the club and walking several yards I finally got the shot distance pop up on the top of the watch back. I'd just like this to work for every shot automatically, without needing to prompt for a club each time. It was nice when it did work though.

I am a slower swing speed person (220y drive) so maybe the speed is an issue with it detecting non-chip/pitch type shots?

  • Last Saturday Venu 3 stopped recording shots after 3 holes. Today it worked well for 6 holes and stopped recording from Tee 7 to 18!! It makes no sense to send videos. I didn´t change settings and it suddenly doesn´t work! Display shows distances and asks for the score, but there´s not shot-recording!

  • I'll chime in here as well, I have the same problems as all the rest of you. If you go into the Garmin golf app you can also see the shots are not recorded.  I play about 3 times a week and the last time my watch recorded shots, was 5/29, the next round the shots are not recorded.  Im quite sure its related to an update and not "user error" .  I have worn garmin golf watches for probably close to 10 years.  they have always been quite good and the products have gotten better over the years.  The last 4 months have been very frustrating with the Venu 3.  Updates break things that used to work.  QA has really suffered.  I think Garmin is more concerned about getting the Connect+ (ie paid subscription service) going rather than fixing the basic things that used to work so well.  Im not ready to give up on Garmin, but definitely looking at the alternatives.  For a $500 device, we do deserve a better user and update experience.
